The shop

Segak (adj.)
— looking sharp.

Azlan opened Segak with two chairs and a second-hand steriliser in a shoplot off Jalan SS 2/24. Ten years later there are four chairs, the same steriliser, and a lot of the same faces.

Every cut starts with a conversation, not a clipper. We wash after, not before, so you leave without a single loose hair down your collar — and every blade is fresh for every client.

  • Fresh blade, every client
  • Hospital-grade sterilising
  • Free parking after 7pm
  • Air-conditioned, Wi-Fi, kopi

Know what to ask for

Not sure what your cut is called? Point at one of these — each card has the words to say in the chair.

The house ritual

Hot towel shave
— forty minutes, four steps.

  1. 1SteamA hot towel, wrung out at the sink, opens the pores and softens the beard.
  2. 2LatherPre-shave oil, then a badger-brush lather worked against the grain.
  3. 3RazorTwo passes with a fresh straight-razor blade — with the grain, then across.
  4. 4CoolA cold towel closes it all up, then alum, balm and a mirror.

“Showed Azlan a blurry photo and he just got it. Best fade I've had in PJ, and it grew out clean.”

“The hot towel shave is the forty minutes of my month I don't look at my phone. Hafiz is a craftsman.”
Kenneth L. · Hot Towel Shave
“Brought my 6-year-old who hates haircuts. Ravi made it a game. We're regulars now, both of us.”
